3.1 Process Overview

Set of Instructions

In Step 1.  Determine the End-Result you identified exactly what you wanted to accomplish. As you now begin the actual design process start by developing the preliminary set of instructions or step-by-step protocol needed to actually produce the end result. Here are some things to consider:

  • Develop the Process Flow Map. Use a flow chart, fish chart, spaghetti map or some other method you are familiar with to outline each step of the proposed process.

  • Involve the  workers in the design process. Many times the best Ergonomists are the people doing the job. They often bring a lot of hands-on experience to the design process. After all, they will be the ones who actually have to do the job in the long run!

  • You may also want to review the information in ErgoBASICS and ErgoDFMA.

  • Now is a great time to conduct a preliminary safety review of the proposed process.  Talk with the Environmental, Health and Safety group to get their input.

  • You can also start thinking about any work force training needs that materialize. Talk with any in-house trainers for training strategies.
