3.2 Parts and Materials

Determine Parts and Materials Requirements

Develop a detailed list of the parts and materials required to perform the job. You may want to start a dialogue with the Supply Chain folks to get their input on purchasing issues.

Determine Conveyance and Storage Needs

Begin thinking about parts and materials conveyance and storage issues. For example consider:

  • Where will the parts and materials be coming from? (Stored on-site, arriving daily from a vendor, etc.)

  • How will they be transported from storage areas to the workstation? (Hand carts, fork truck, etc.)

  • Do you need any storage in the workstation? (If so, how much and where will it stored and staged as needed?)

Determine Hazardous Materials Exposure

Now is also a good time to determine if you will have any hazardous materials issues in terms of handling and disposal.
