Current Major Tasks

Step 2 is to list the Current Major Tasks to complete the job.

Use the Ergonomics Analysis Worksheet to conduct the assessment.

Interview - Interview the person or persons performing the job to gain their insight and perspective.

Observe - Observe the job. If it makes sense try the job yourself. Once you have a handle on the job, briefly describe the job/task as concisely as you can. Answer the basics questions:

  • Who?

  • What?

  • Why?

  • When?

  • Where?

  • How much?

  • How long?

  • By whom?

Document - Document the current major steps to complete the task.

  • Identify performance measures and goals

  • Make a list of all of tools, equipment and facilities required to perform the job

Use the specific Checklists and Spotlight based on job tasks.

Comments/Tips

  • Compare experienced faster and injury-free workers with those who are inexperienced, fatigued, uncomfortable, or complaining of pain or injury.

  • Determine if there are differences in work technique among these groups.

  • If repetitive, note cycle time, capture a minimum of 5 cycles.

  • Sketch the work area, if needed.

  • Obtain weights and measures as needed.
