Ergonomics  . . . . not a new word these days

In fact did you know you can enjoy ergonomically designed salsa chips? Now the cynic in us says, "Yeah right, they are using ergonomics to sell us chips!"

But on further reflection, as we will discuss, ergonomics is all about enhancing performance.

In your experience any performance problems with salsa chips? Two come to mind - they break when you dip the chip into the salsa and the salsa tends to fall off.

So, guess what . . . ergonomically designed salsa chips are formed in the shape of scoops and are a little thicker - less likely to break and less likely to have the salsa fall off.

As a science, ergonomics presents a set of principles we can use to optimize our workplaces and our homes. Our workstations, the chairs we sit on, the equipment we use, the processes we employ - all of these things influence our health, safety, quality, productivity and comfort at work and home.

In ErgoBASICS we will introduce you to a definition of ergonomics, a set of ergonomics principles, an ergonomics analysis process and provide a set of ergonomics assessment tools you can use to help assess and design the workplace.
