"Rubber hits the Road"

So at this time you have a good idea of what you want to accomplish from Step 1. Determine the End Result and you have identified/determined the workforce in Step 2. Describe Workforce Characteristics; now the 'rubber hits the road' as you develop the design based on ergonomics principles.

Go to ErgoBASICS and ErgoDFMA any time you want to for a quick review or additional information.

Step 3 has 9 sub-steps. You may not use all of them depending on your design needs, please review them and use as you need to. Each sub-step provides specific ergonomics design information.

3.1

Process Overview

Outline essential procedural steps to accomplish the task.

3.2

Parts and Materials

Determine and select the parts and materials required to accomplish the task.

3.3

Equipment

Determine and select the equipment needed to accomplish the task. Identify and resolve any ergonomics issues.

3.4

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Determine the impact PPE has on the performance of the job tasks. Identify and resolve any ergonomics issues.

3.5

Tools

Determine and select the tools needed. Identify and resolve any ergonomics issues.

3.6

Material Handling Needs

Determine and quantify materials that need to be handled. Identify and resolve any ergonomics issues.

3.7

Workstation Configuration/Layout

Determine type and characteristics of the workstation and how the work cells and other components will be laid-out in the workstation. Identify and resolve any ergonomics issues.

3.8

Environment

Define/control environmental factors (light, auditory, thermal, etc.) Identify and resolve any ergonomics issues.

3.9

Work Force/ Workstation Design Match

Ensure an appropriate match exists between the physical and cognitive job tasks and the capabilities of the workforce. Use the Step-by-Step Checklist to track your progress.
